Trekking to the tribe villages of Ba Na Hin and Kong Lor
Day 1: Vientiane - Arrival (None)
On arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to check in the hotel. The rest of the day is your own time at leisure. Overnight in Vientiane.
Day 2: Vientiane - City Tour - Buddha Park (B/-/-)
In the morning, we will first visit Wat Si Muang, which is very famous for its supernatural power. We then transfer out to see the Buddha Park, an enchanting collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures on the Mekong Riverside meadow, near the Friendship Bridge. There are approximately 200 religious images dating back over 500 years, which were created by a mysterious monk spreading his philosophy on life and revealing his ideas about the universe.
We then come back to the town to visit the city in the afternoon, including the oldest Wat Sisaket, a temple of thousands of miniature Buddha statues, and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. We also visit Lao national icon, That Luang Stupa, and we stop to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph. Overnight in Vientiane
Day 3: Vientiane - Phou Khao Khouay - Vientiane (B/-/-)
After breakfast, visit Talad Khuadin (Khuadin market) where various goods are displayed for sale; including fresh food, household goods, souvenirs, textiles, gold, silver and antiques. Then driving to Phou Khau Khouay Park, which is the nearest National Park (1:30 drive) for a hike in the park. Walk on foot and by boat (season rain), picnicking, swimming, discovery of orchids are main activities of this walk, which ends around 3:00 p.m. in the post-noon. Back in Vientiane in the afternoon.
Day 4: Vientiane - Ban Nahin (B/-/-)
After breakfast, drive by the road 13 down to the south to reach the small village of Ban Na Hin in a very impressive area with Limestone Mountain all around.
After some relax start a small trekking into protected forest area with impressive virgin rainforest. Stopping along the way to visit Nasanam waterfall. This waterfall is approx 50 meters high and very spectacular during the rainy season; there will also have time to swim in the river below.
You now return along a different trail and visit an elephant salt lick. Time permitting you will continue to a second waterfall and swimming hole. In the late afternoon you will return to your guesthouse for an overnight stay in Ban Nahin, with time to explore the local market and town.

Day 5: Ban Nahin - Tham Kong Lor - Thakhek (B/-/-)
Following breakfast, travel three hours by local transport to Kong Lor village. We now walk with local guides to the cave entrance through a protected forest area. Using local boat we will travel the 7.5 km through the cave to the valley beyond, stopping to take two short walks to observe stalactites and other limestone formations within the cave. The cave is still used by local villagers as an access route to the region beyond. Folowing a picnic lunch (your own account), we depart for Thakhek, the capital city of Khammoune Province. Overnight in Thakhek.
Day 6: Thakhek - Tham Pa Fa - Savannakhet (B/-/-)
In the morning, we depart from Thakhek and follow the old French railway track that was destined to Vietnam but has never been finished. Continuing through pleasant country scenery, we'll arrive in the village of Ban Nakhang Xang. The trip continues onto Khammouane's famous Buddha cave.
We climb up to the Cave, which has been rediscovered only in April 2004. The cave contains 229 bronze Buddhas that are said to be over 300 year old. If time permits, we will be able to canoe even below the cave using a local boat. Thereafter our guide will escort us back to the village following a different route through the forest. We then return to Thakek and take a short drive to Savannakhet, the biggest city of the Central Laos. Overnight in Savannakhet
Day 7: Savannakhet Lao Bao (B/-/-)
Savannakhet is famous for its French Colonial buildings. This fast growing town has become an important trade center between Vietnam and Laos. We will have ample time to explore the town before transferring the border between Laos and Vietnam, Lao Bao. Along the way, we may stop to visit the sacred stupa of That Inhang, which is one of the most important religious sites of Laos. Arriving at the border at around mid-afternoon, the guide helps you with finishing the border formality before saying goodbye.
