Day 1: Luang Prabang - Arrival (None)
On arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to check in the hotel. The rest of the day is your own time at leisure. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 2: Luang Prabang - City Tour (B/-/-)
Your full day city tour begins after breakfast, with a visit to the Royal Palace Museum (closed on Tuesday), which hosts a range of interesting artifacts. We then enjoy a short-guided tour seeing the city’s oldest temple of Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represents classical Laotian architecture. In the morning, we also visit the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrine of Wat Aham.
Following lunch, we visit the Arts and Ethnology Centre to learn about Laos’ many ethnic cultures before we head out of town to see the weaving villages of Ban Xiengkhong and Ban Xienglek. We then return to the city for a visit to Wat Mai. We then climb up to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a panoramic view of the city at sunset and the Mekong River. The tour ends after a visit to the famous Night Market, where you can find a lovely selection of handmade textiles made by local and hilltribe people surrounding Luang Prabang. Day 3: Luang Prabang - Khouang Si Waterfalls (B/-/-)
An optional early start gives you the fantastic opportunity to participate in the daily morning rituals of saffron-clad monks collecting offerings of Alms (ubiquitous sticky rice) from the faithful residents. This tradition is very unique in Laos, being the only Buddhist nation still preserving the procession. From there you will visit the morning Phosi Market where you will see such diverse offerings as dried buffalo skin, local tea and saltpeter among the chickens, vegetables and hill-tribe weavings. Laos is also known for its traditional handicrafts, and today you will visit local village of Lao ethnic minority groups at Ban Ouay and Ban Thapene.
We then drive to the beautiful Khouangsi Waterfall where you can splash around in the turquoise pools or walk along the forest paths. We return to Luang Prabang by late afternoon for observing the sunset at Wat Siphouthabath. Overnight in Luang Prabang
Day 4: Luang Prabang - Pak Ou Caves - Muang La (B/-/D)
Today, we will transfer to Muang La via Oudomxay. Along the way, we will stop at Ban Pak Ou and board on a small motorboat to visit the mysterious Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims. We will also stop to visit the intriguing Pra Xack Kham Temple with its sacred Buddha image. The 400 years old legendary statue is said to have many supernatural powers, and is widely worshipped among the faithful local Buddhists.
Late afternoon, we arrive in Muang La, a picturesque village famous for its hot springs, which you can enjoy, along with a massage at the wonderful Muang La Resort. Overnight in Muang La. Overnight at Muang La Resort
Day 5: Muang La - Cycling Discovery (B/L/D)
Along the banks of the River Nam Pak, there are many Khamu villages dotted along the course of the river. As you explore the area on your mountain bike, you pass through some beautiful scenery and meet the villagers at work, harvesting vegetables on the banks of the river. You will stop in one of the villages and as you pass through the village, you have the opportunity to learn about the daily life of the village and its inhabitants. You will learn about their traditional beliefs such as respect of the wisdom of the village elders, the innocence of youth and the communal spirit of the village. After around 11km, you reach the village of Tad Muan where you can learn how the traditional houses are built and the different ways of hunting that used by the villagers. Day 6: Muang La - Free (B/-/D)
You are free for the whole day to stroll around the resort or just relax and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and scenic surrounding. Overnight at Muang La Resort.
Day 7: Muang La - Luang Prabang (B/-/-)
Today, we are free before transferring back to Luang Prabang. Along the way, we will have time to visit some local villages. Arriving in Luang Prabang late afternoon, transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 8: Luang Prabang - Pakse - Champasak (B/-/-)
You are free before taking a flight to the Southern Laos. On arrival, we transfer to the province of Champasak, where standing the lovely The River Resort. Check in the hotel, overnight at The River Resort.
Day 9: Champasak - Free (B/-/-)
Today, you are free to relax at this wonderful resort. Overnight at The River Resort.
Day 10: Champasak - Wat Phou - Done Daeng (B/-/-)
We leave the resort and transfer to visit Wat Phou, one of Southeast Asia's most dramatically situated temples. We have time to explore these intriguing Khmer ruins, which are perched at the base of Mount Phu Kao. Wat Phu is one of the Lao World Heritage sites recognized by UNESCO in 2001, this wonderful archeological site of Khmer civilization dates back to the 9th century, predating the famous Angkor Wat in Cambodia. A festival of this site is held yearly during the full moon in February and attracts numerous pilgrims from all over southern Laos. We then transfer to Done Daeng Island, where we will check in the scenic La Folie Lodge, where we will spend the next two nights.
Day 11: Done Daeng - Free (B/-/-)
Today, you are free to stroll around to visit some local village in the island. We may also rent a bike from the lodge. Overnight at La Folie Lodge.
Day 12: Done Daeng - Ban Khiet Ngong (B/-/-)
In the morning, we transfer further south to Ban Khiet Ngong. On arrival, meet with the Asian Elephants before lead our big friend to mount Phou Asa. The rest of the day is your own free to at leisure. Overnight at King Fisher Ecolodge.
Day 13: Ban Khiet Ngong - Done Khone (B/-/-)
Early morning, transfer to the 4000 Island area, which is called with the lovely name of Si Phan Done by the locals. We stop over at Ban Nakasang to take the small boat the Done Khone.
On arrival, we explore the local peaceful villages of Ban Khone, where you will see an array of relics from the French colonial era and retrace the old colonial past, including old French colonial buildings and the remnants of the first Lao railway with it’s locomotive. We continue to discover the 4000 islands area by boat and visit the marvelous Liphi waterfall, also called the "Corridor of the Devil" one of the most beautiful waterfalls marking Lao border with Cambodia. If we are lucky, we may even see the rare freshwater Irrawaddy Mekong dolphin at Ban Hang Khone. Overnight in Done Khone Island,
Day 14: Done Khone - Free (B/-/-)
The fresh and wonderful atmosphere of the island and the Si Phan Done area is worth spending one more day free here. Overnight in Done Khone.
Day 15: Done Khone - Pakse - Departure (B/-/-)
Today, we can depart to Cambodia via Dom Kralor border, to Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand via Chongmek border (with a transfer via Pakse), or transfer back to Pakse before taking the departure flight to the other destinations. End of Services.
