Day 1: Tay Trang - Muang Khua - Muang La (None)
After finishing the border formality, meet with your guide and transfer directly to Muang La via Muang Khua. Arriving there mid-afternoon, the rest of the day is your own free time at leisure. Overnight in Muang La.
Day 2: Muang La - Oudomxay (B/-/-)
Early morning, we will take a ride around Muang la to visit some hill tribe village of H’Mong and Khamu. After lunch, we set off our journey along the Nam Bak River to Oudomxay. Along the way, we will also stop at the intriguing Pra Xack Kham Temple with its sacred Buddha image. The 400 years old legendary statue is said to have many supernatural powers, and is widely worshipped among the faithful local Buddhists. Arriving in Oudomxay late afternoon, transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Oudomxay.
Day 3: Oudomxay - Pakbeng (B/-/D)
Early morning, we will set or way through the Oudomxay province to Pakbeng. The road conditions are are partly good and poor, so it may be a rough journey; however many villages dot the hillsides and the undulating terrain makes this an interesting journey. Oudomxay province is residence to a mixture of 23 ethnic minority groups. We make a few rest stops along the way, which gives you the opportunity to see the ethnic minority groups of Hmong, Khmu, Black Thai and Lu; Hmong hilltribe people at Ban Songja and Ban Jarong. The hill tribe people are unfailingly friendly; welcoming you with waving hands and smilling faces. Once we arrive at Pakbeng, we browse the daily evening hill tribe market before checking in to your hotel. Overnight in Pakbeng.
Day 4: Pakbeng - Kamu Lodge (B/-/D)
The day starts with a transfer to Mekong Elephant Camp where you will have a watch on the elephant bath in the morning. After that the 45 minute elephant ride starts off with a ride down a river bed surrounded by bamboo foliage. Along the way, it is your chance to open your view on the picturesque countryside. Trekking to the top of the hill also offer you a glimpse of the Mekong in the valley below. The elephants will pass by a local H’Mong village, where you can stop to take a look on the local daily life. We then return to Elephant Camp.
We then board on a leisurely cruise downstream to Kamu Lodge, the scenic ecolodge at the middle of nowhere.
Dinner is a feast by Kamu tribe standards. We want you to see the world from the Kamu's eyes. Experience their celebration of lives which urbanites have often forgotten. After dinner, retire to your tent.
Day 5: Kamu Lodge - Luang Prabang (B/L/-)
After breakfast, you can choose to either relax in the veranda or partake in traditional Kamu lifestyles and activities:
- Rice planting and harvesting in surrounding rice fields
- Gold panning in the Mekong. Anything you find is yours!
- Jungle walks to search for medicinal plants
- Trekking through the forest to waterfalls
- Traditional fishing techniques. You can sample your catch for dinner!
- Local village visit
- Archery contest
After lunch, we may have a soft rest before continuing our cruise downstream to Luang Prabang. Before reaching the city, we will stop to visit Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims. Day 6: Luang Prabang - City Tour - Khouang Si Waterfalls (B/-/-)
ABF, we visit Royal Palace Museum, which hosts a range of interesting artifacts. We then head to the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represents classical Laotian architecture. Laos is also known for its traditional crafts, and today you will visit local villages of Lao ethnic minority groups at Ban Ouay, a Hmong village, Ban Ou a Laoloum village and Ban Thapene, a Khmu village. This then takes us to the beautiful Khouang Si Waterfall where you can cool off with a refreshing swim in the pools or walk along the forest trails. We then return to Luang Prabang.
In the afternoon, we still have time to visit the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrines of Wat Aham before ascending the 329 steps to the top of Phousi Hill for a beautiful sunset view of the city and its glowing reflection on the Mekong River. The tour ends after a visit to the famous Night Market, where you can find a lovely collection of handmade textiles made by local and hilltribe people surrounding Luang Prabang. Day 7: Luang Prabang - Departure(B/-/-)
